ABVKY unemployment relief: current extension and eligibility
Reviewed 16 October 2026. The Atal Beemit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana (ABVKY) is an ESIC cash-relief scheme for eligible insured persons who become unemployed. ESIC approved an extension for 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. The Ministry of Labour’s 27 July 2026 announcement states that an insured person must have been in insurable employment for at least 12 months immediately before unemployment and must have at least 78 days of contributions in one completed contribution period during the preceding 12 months. Unemployment caused by misconduct, during a lockout, on superannuation, or following conviction for a false statement under the ESI law is excluded in the stated criteria. See the Ministry’s current ABVKY announcement.
Relief amount and duration
ESIC’s published scheme note describes relief at 50% of average daily earnings for a maximum of 90 days. The July 2026 extension notice confirms the current extension and eligibility conditions; check the live ABVKY instructions for the amount, calculation period and any later terms that apply to your unemployment date. This is a scheme benefit, not a guaranteed salary replacement.

How to prepare a claim
- Review the latest ABVKY eligibility and claim instructions on the official ESIC website or insured-person portal.
- Check your insurance number, contribution history, date and reason for separation, and registered bank details.
- Submit the claim through the online or other route currently specified by ESIC, with the evidence requested for your case.
- Save the acknowledgement or reference number and monitor the status through the portal. Respond to any request for correction or additional evidence.
- If the portal shows missing or incorrect employment records, contact the former employer and ESIC through the official grievance or branch channel.
Portal labels, proof requirements and processing times can change. This guide does not promise a decision date. ESIC’s scheme note describes the benefit rate and maximum duration; use the live ESIC instructions for a claim.
What this guide does not establish
ABVKY eligibility cannot be decided from a payslip alone. The insured person’s contribution periods, employment record, reason for job loss and the scheme terms on the relevant date all matter. Do not rely on older articles that quote a two-year employment requirement, a fixed 15–30-day processing promise, or a claim route that ESIC no longer displays.
