These codes date from 2012-2013. Treat them as a guide, not as the current list.
EPFO no longer publishes its ECR error list — we recovered this from archived copies because the live addresses return 404. The file format has since moved on to ECR 2.0 and ECR 3.0, so some codes will have been retired, replaced or renumbered. The underlying rules — member ID format, name format, wage fields, duplicate detection — have been stable for years, which is why this is still worth checking. But if your code is not here, or the fix does not work, the answer is on the portal or with EPFO, not here.
The most common ones
- Data is not as per ECR format (25 Fields separated by #~#)
- Member ID (Field-1) is incorrect
- Member ID (Field-1) is already exists
- Member name (Field-2) is incorrect
- EPF Wage (Field-3) value is incorrect
If the fix here does not clear it
Most ECR rejections come from the same handful of causes: a member ID that does not match the UAN, a name with a character EPFO will not accept, a date of joining or exit in the wrong format, or a contribution figure that does not reconcile to the wage declared. The correction almost always has to be made in the source file and re-uploaded, not in the portal.
