Check a payslip in two passes: reconcile its arithmetic, then inspect the basis of each deduction. The private payslip analyzer helps with the first pass. It reads pasted text or TXT, CSV and XLSX locally; copy text from a PDF rather than expecting scanned-image OCR.
Confirm the period and units
A payslip may show current-month and year-to-date columns next to each other. Identify the wage month, paid days and any arrears or loss of pay. A parser can suggest the first number after a label, so review every suggestion against the original before calculating.
Reconcile gross earnings
Add basic, DA, HRA, other allowances and any current-period incentive. Compare the sum with reported gross. If the difference is ₹500, look for a missing reimbursement, arrears or adjustment instead of silently inserting an unexplained allowance. Reimbursements outside salary may need separate treatment.
Reconcile deductions to net pay
At ₹30,000 gross, employee PF ₹1,800, PT ₹200 and TDS ₹1,000 produce ₹27,000 net. A slip showing ₹26,500 needs an additional ₹500 explanation. An arithmetic match confirms that the listed figures balance; it does not establish that PF wages, tax or a recovery was correctly determined.
Keep employer costs out of employee deductions
Employer PF, employer ESI, insurance and gratuity provisioning can appear in a CTC summary. They must be distinguished from amounts deducted from gross employee pay. Counting a cost twice is a common reason CTC and take-home comparisons become misleading.
Follow the next record
For contribution credit, use the PF passbook mismatch checker. For contribution coverage across an increment, use the ESI timeline. For tax planning, use the salary and TDS calculator. Each answers a different question from whether the slip balances.
